Registered Provisional Psychologist
Hello! My name is Vanessa. I am registered as a provisional psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologist's Association of Alberta. I completed my Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto where I majored in psychology and specialized in exceptionality in human learning. I received a Master of Education in Developmental Psychology. In addition, I've completed a multitude of counselling courses at Yorkville University such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Crisis and Trauma Counselling and Assessments in Counselling.
I have experience working with children and families. I provided early intervention to children with developmental delays (motor skills, speech delays, everyday activities, etc), neurodevelopmental disorder (ASD), as well as behavioural challenges. I often provide intervention plans for the family to work on in the comfort of their home, as well as to strengthen their communication skills.
My modalities include play-based therapy (Synergetic play therapy), and a mixture of motivational interviewing, as well as solution-focused therapy. I also pull techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy and Gottman's method depending on the clients' wants and needs.
My approach aims to facilitate a strong therapeutic relationship where we can work together as a team to achieve the clients' goals. I'm looking forward to working with you!
